The number of people who died by drowning has been particularly high this year. Since the beginning of June, Civil Protection services have reported no less than 254 cases, 186 among which happened on beaches while the 68 others drowned in water retention areas.
During the last 24 hours, two people died by drowning, the Civil Protection said in a statement on Monday, August 28. A third person is missing and being searched for, according to the same source.
Civil Protection added that, during the last 24 hours, members working on beach surveillance have intervened in 635 cases and were able to save 441 people from a certain death.
